A proud mama

So I just thought I'd take a moment and share the joyous moments that are my morning. Today upon hearing Aiden wake up, I went into his room and did our normal cuddle bug time. He soon crawled out of his bed only to grab two of his favorite books: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See (thanks Lindsay!) and The Tiny Tadpole (thanks Brooke!). He then opened Brown Bear and started to read it to me (from memorization of course) and something about the whole thing just made me swell up with pride. The fact that he loves and enjoys books so much, makes this English Major's heart jump with pride and joy. Watching the pure excitement he gets on his face every time that tiny tadpole turns into a frog is completely priceless. I just hope as he grows he continues to love the excitement that good books can bring.

I'll see a dragon there?

Hello everyone and welcome back to everyday exciting life! So this time we'll start with the title of the blog. Yesterday as we were getting ready for church, Aiden so noncholantly asked, "I'll see a dragon there?" Our first reaction was a burst of laughter, but when we saw those oh-so-serious eyes awaiting our answer, well we had to break the news that no, there are no dragons at our church.
As you can see we aren't completely blameless in the dragon thing, his new kite has caused quite a bit of excitement around here.
Beyond that things around here have been a lot of fun. Aiden is loving his gymnastics and does it constantly at home. With the constant question looming "Mama you do a foreward roll?" Well the only problem is mommy is getting dizzy, but enjoying that awesome smile after each one is worth this almost constant feeling of nausea.


On another note this past weekend has been full of firsts. We took Aiden to go see his first big movie (Madagascar 2) and we also took a little crew up and enjoyed Aiden's first time sledding in the mountains. He, of course, had a blast! I have to say it was the perfect day, the sun was shinging, the roads were pretty much clear, and we found the nicest cross-country ski pass for our sledding extravaganza.

Gymnastics fun!

So this year we've enrolled Aiden in gymnastics (because really all the other sports start at age three)and he has loved it! Not only does he get to play with a bunch of kiddos his own age, but can you think of a place that has more of a variety of fun, running, and tumbling activities? Well after each semester they do a special graduation day and here are the pictures from ours. Enjoy everyone!

"I made yellows!"

Hello everyone, welcome back to our crazy world! I know the last two posts were rather rushed and focused more on the holidays, so now back to our normal, everyday, crazy, life. After this post I'm going to post a specific gymnastics blog because there are so many pictures!

Well let's first start with the title of this blog. For many of you, you know what a challenge potty training has been for us. However, these past weeks we seem to have a giant breakthrough (knock on wood). Aiden has really started to assert himself in peeing in the potty! He not only does it at our urging rather is really starting to recognize when he himself needs to go, which is a huge step for him. What is perhaps most amusing about each time is his enthusiasm for his treat afterwards and his declaration of "I made yellows!" which just cracks this mama up! Yet, while this has been an awesome development we are still waiting for that little ticker to go off in his head when it comes to going number two. For some reason the thought of making poopies really is hard/scary for him. So while we are basking in one accomplishment we aren't completely out of the woods yet. So if anyone has any good suggestions for this dilemma, please I'd love to hear them!

The past couple weeks have also allotted us with a lot of opportunities to enjoy some outside time. Yes, it's sunny and we are taking full advantage. For example, a trip to the zoo was something Aiden had been begging for, but it was far to cold. However, last week we managed to squeeze a trip into one unseasonably warm afternoon and lemme say it was wonderful! The kiddos even got a chance to play on the play structure there, something that is usually far to crowded for this mama's comfort.

We also got the chance to try something new with Aiden, we went to a game center. We tried golf cart racing, which surprisingly he didn't seem to enjoy but it was quickly rectified with minature golfing! Let me tell ya, he's awesome at it, he actually managed to walk away with two holes in one. I am still so surprised at how easily any kind of sport comes to him, he really does have a natural raw ability that is just so fun to watch.


This weekend we also got to do a family fun night at the natural history museum here and see a planetarium show, which was exciting for Aiden. Since we've never really taken him to a movie this was kind of like his first big theatre experience and we were so proud of how well he did.
This really has been such a fun-filled month with him, getting to go out and do these activities has made the fact that school has started back up again less of an pang for me. Watching him have as much fun as he has makes me realize how much I enjoy this age. The things he comes up with on his own, his enthusiasm for everything he does, and just how happy he always is warms this mama's heart. Christmas Fun!

Ok. Where to start? Well many people might look at the craziness of our Christmas holiday and think wow Aiden is really spoiled. Well let me assure you, those were my first thoughts lol. However, at much deeper pondering, while looking at the plethora of new great things Aiden got for Christmas that are continually strewed throughout my house, I can't help but feel he is so lucky. Lucky to have so many people who love him so much that they think of him on such a grand scale during the most giving season of the year. So thank you to everyone, we really feel so blessed to have you all in our lives.

For Christmas Eve we had a very late night, opening presents with Erik's family until we had one exhausted little man on our hands. Though he did make out like a bandit there (a play kitchen, an art easel, play tools, and so much more- about 15 items more) that was just the beginning. Come Christmas morning this exhausted little man actually seemed too tired to open presents. In fact his first real course of action was finishing Santa's left over milk (good thing I had poured it 5 minutes before he woke up) and eating the other half of the cookie Santa just couldn't finish lol. Hey the kid has always had food priorities.
Santa this year came and left many great things Aiden. And to be perfectly honest it couldn't have come at a better time. We've been noticing that lately a lot of Aiden's old toys were starting to seem to little for him. Though we never anticipated the abundance of gifts that he received this year, they honestly have been a nice, change of pace for him. And while I love them, I also can't help but feel like my little baby is slowly slipping away toy by toy. I know he is a full energy, somewhat defiant, normal, toddler - I just can't help but look at him and feel that twinge of nostalgia.

<--- Just for a little explanation - he got a set of dinosaur stamps and was ready to put a stamp on his belly (thanks to the little gym for that one lol).

After we opened our presents at our house we headed over to grandma and grandpa's house and begin to open even more presents! LOL. There we enjoyed a nice, relaxing day. We had breakfast, hung out with family and opened presents. Here Aiden got great movies, books (Please parent's by the book Personal Penguin - it's hilarious!) and was very excited to get a child's doctor's kit - it was a big hit! Take a look at how excited he was to give Erik a shot - lol it's quite hilarious how quickly he went to healing us all! Here's some more pictures from our fun day!

So since Christmas it's still been a bit of a whirlwind. All of the sudden our house looks as though it's exploded. Though we are paying extra special attention to cleaning up before we pull out another toy, sometimes the pure excitement of all these new toys are just too much. Also to add to the excitement, Uncle Nick, came home for a visit.

So to end this blog I'm going to post more pictures of Aiden playing with all of his new fun toys and what not. I know this blog was primarily pictures but the next one will hold much more substinance. Hope your holidays were as fun and exciting as ours.

Madness I tell you, madness!

Welcome back everyone! I honestly meant to write sooner and get through one holiday at a time, but well the holiday season proved to be much more of a whirlwind than I originally anticipated... oooh foolish, naive, me! So for the sake of not making this blog terribly long and cluttered this is the before Christmas one and my next will cover Christmas lol.

Well we'll start with Thanksgiving, which was wonderful. Erik, Aiden and I journeyed to California by car to visit Nick and Crystal and we had a ball. First of all we were so pleasantly surprised by how Aiden did on the drive. I'll admit we were really nervous but thanks to Dave's portable DVD player, lots of fun new snacks and a couple of stops along the way - we made a successful journey too and from their house feeling very lucky (knock on wood this lasts). During our stay we got to enjoy their lovely new house, their three fun doggies (which Aiden still talks about), great food, and a lot of laughter. All in all it was a great get away for us and a nice chance to broaden Aiden's travel experiences.

Also one big mention for our holiday season was getting our puppy right before we left for California! Tops came into our home and lives and from day one acted like he knew the house was his. Though his name was given by Aiden (Because he wanted him named Triceratops) it fits him perfect. I have never met such a clumsy puppy as this dog. He's hilarious and Aiden and the dog together are a great match. Aiden is constantly asking "Can Tops come too?" when we're walking out the door to run errands. It's just so nice how easily this dog has fit into our lives and hearts, he's such a playful little love bug and we're happy he's found a home with us.

Before we get into the madness that was Christmas I have to mention a few more things like, Aiden seeing a hockey game. Our little sports fanatic still reigns, it was hilarious! I wish everyone could have seen how fascinated he was with the whole experience and how by the end he was yelling "Go Scorps!" with the rest of the crowd. After we sat down a worker at the arena came up and gave him a real hockey puck (as seen in the picture) and he was sooo excited. What a trip this son of mine is!

One other fun adventure before Christmas was the festival of lights. This year was Aiden's first year and it was particularly special because of some great new lights. Though were were really bundled up (it was freezing when we went) he thoroughly enjoyed seeing the huge dino and airplane while sipping on some hot chocolate, and of course watching the train toot toot by at the Bio Park - a must see for Aiden.

Though we had high hopes for a white Christmas we didn't get one this year. However, we did have a few snow teases before the holiday - here are those pictures.

Well I hope these pictures give ya'll a great sense of how fun and crazy our before Christmas time was. In the midst of all this I was finishing up my semester at school and though this season was absolutely hectic - we still had a blast. Now we'll start with the Christmas blog... =0)
